Killin – The Gateway to The Highlands

Beech cottage is situated in a secluded forest clearing, overlooking a private lochan. The cottage is ideally located for access to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, yet only a 2-hour drive from the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Beech Cottage is an ideal base for touring, walkling, fishing, cycling and many other countryside activities.

The nearest village is Killin, just over 2 miles away. Killin is a delightful, unspoiled highland village which spans the banks of the River Dochart close to where it spills into Loch Tay. As it runs through the village, the river flows over large rocks to form the spectacular Falls of Dochart .

There is a good range of local shops in the village – a newsagent, grocers, post office, co-op, florist, an outdoor shop (which offers cycle hire), antique shop and hardware shop,as well as several gift shops, coffee shops and a good choice of eating places.

The banks of Loch Tay are just a short stroll from the village centre. The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park encompasses Killin making Beech Cottage ideally situated for exploring Scotland ‘s first National park.

For hill walking enthusiasts, there are a number of walks to suit all ages and abilities – from gentle strolls to the more strenuous walks, with over 30 Munros within a thirty minute drive.

For cyclists there are a number of great cycle tracks in the area, within the quiet glens or through the nearby forest parks. Bikes can be hired locally.

Fishing, canoeing, cruising, waterskiing and other water-sports are all readily accessible in nearby Lochearnhead or on Loch Tay.
